Although there is no cure for genital herpes Zovirax helps keep symptoms of genital herpes down and prevents future outbreaks. Zovirax contains 50 mg of acyclovir in a polyethylene glycol (PEG) base. Zovirax is a topical agent and therefore should only be applied to the skin. Avoid putting it anywhere near the eyes!

Very rarely will a person experience side affects from Zovirax. The only side affects reported include pain at the application site and a slight skin rash. You should adequately cover all lesions every 3 hours, 6 times per day for 7 days.

Nursing mothers should avoid taking Zovirax because if can show up in the milk and therefore affect the baby.
